I went to Japan for 3 months. That was really good... desire to communicate (basic human instinct) is great motivator for learning a language. If you ever get the chance, I urge you to go!

hey i got realli obsessed with everything japanese, music, culture, magazines, people, actors, singers, information, journals on the net.
I did all of those excercises (grammar) like for fun ...like doing cross words i realli enjoyoed it ahahah maybe im a bit obsessive but thats the way i am. then i read the dicitonary (kodansha one the bloody ex[pensive one u get from kinokuniya) then i take down good words and sentences that have flair. I memorized songs....watched jap tv...
and plus i had an excellent teacher - good luck!
GET obsessed! ahaha dats my motto,...maybe not, if ur not strong enough u probably get sick of it or stressed and end up hating it!
dats the end of my advice for 2005 nihongoers

oh, also,
zhongie, are you chinese?
if so, does knowing kanji makes it much easier to learn ?
did u really get the top of the state??? @_@ you're my hero! are you a girl?

i wanted to go japan as an exchange student,
but my parents were too stinggi ( <--- is that how u spell stinggi? stingee? ).

It's spelt stingy, but that's besides the point.

Yes, I am a girl, yes I am chinese. Knowing kanji...well, it helped a bit, but beginners don't need much, so it wasn't a great advantage. Going on exchange was the best thing, I think, because it really forced me to learn Japanese and it was so fun that I got really motivated to get better.
