I've got an issue with q 3) c) i) 2008 CSSA

I dont understand why - x is added isntead of x for the y value of the function x + y = 0. Why isn't the area of the sqaure (2sqrtx + +x)^2 ?
Arent we dealing with distances????

Im sorry if this is is a stupid q, help would be VERY MUCH appreciated

Your right. The area of the square is (2sqrtx + l-x l )^2. Expand to get answer.
