for a 2nd semester advanced subject, if for instance u dont get a D in the normal 1st sem subject but you did fulfil the hsc requirements for the advanced level, is it possible to switch to the advanced unit in 2nd semester based on your hsc ?

no... it's based solely on ur performance on ur 1st sem subjects administratively... so even if u pre enrolled in adv subjects, and u did majorly bad, theorically u got dropped down to normal...

but then, a fwnd got majorly owned in everything but chem in 1st yr 1st sem... he still does everything (except bio) in adv level...

moral of the story: u to figure out =p xiaoie dind't tell u any thing...

i think phys and bio have that getting a distinction thingo. as far as i now, chem (1907/8/9) students dont hafta get a D, mainly coz that is more of a specialised chemistry for thier course.

maths i dunno, but i dont think u hafta get a D. they never mentioned nething about it.

i'm pretty sure you have to get a distinction if the subject has a corresponding first semester subject. Thats what it says in the Science unit of study handbook. Though I think I remember reading somewhere if you're already enrolled in an Advanced degree, you only have to maintain a credit avg. to stay in the advanced stream? Though I'm not sure.

The latter part of your statement is true. It's only when you're doing a normal subject in first semester that you need to get a distinction to get into an adv subject during the second semester.
