Here are the ranks as per my half-yearly report:
Engineering studies: 12/25
Software Design & Development: 10/23
English Advanced: 65/88
Maths Advanced: 69/90
Physics: 24/33

School ranked 130
need an 80 ATAR for engineering at UTS
Is this goal attainable???

I think that estimating a possible ATAR/ATAR range given this information is slightly more difficult than usual, probably because your current position is complex in the sense that you do not appear to be on track for a high ATAR, yet you do not appear to be on track for a very low ATAR either. Perhaps providing additional information, such as the number of band 6's achieved at your school in each of your subjects, would assist in providing informed ATAR estimates that can pinpoint your current position more accurately, allowing you to determine the extent to which you need to improve in order to maximise your chances of achieving your ATAR goal.

With that being said, I doubt that your current performance is consistent with an 80 ATAR. Your ranks do not seem sufficiently high across your subjects, especially English Advanced and Mathematics Advanced. You could potentially exclude Engineering Studies and Software Design and Development, where your standard of performance appears slightly higher than the rest of your subjects. Of course, you are definitely still able to rank higher in all of your subjects by doing your utmost to improve your performance in your upcoming internal assessment tasks/exams. Additionally, the HSC exam, which contributes 50% of your HSC mark in each of your subjects, is also a great opportunity for you to turn things around in your favour.

Keep in mind that, in addition to any improvements that you make, you can have adjustment factors applied to your selection rank, which increase your chances of receiving an offer to the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours). The good news is that UTS applies up to 5 points and takes into consideration HSC marks in the band 4 range and higher. You can also receive an offer through UTS's Early Entry Program (provided your year 11 results are favourable).

I hope this helps! :D

Yes, it is attainable. Your current trajectory is probably below an ATAR of 80, so you‘ll need to put in more effort, but you’re less than halfway through the assessment component, so you can work on the other eighty percent of your marks.

Generally speaking getting into UTS is fairly easy even with a low ATAR let say around 60. Although it is not quite clear from the website whether you would be guranteed admission into the full degree and what is the ATAR needed for Diploma of Engineering you can do research and if need be contact UTS if need be.

Edit: You will be guranteed entry if you meet the GPA requirements

It's absolutely still attainable. People underestimate how influential moderation can actually be come the HSC exams.

Also UTS does accept the Engineering and IT Questionnaire for UAC and early entry applications so that will be a possible boost in selection rank and for IT and Eng early entry they add a possible maximum of 8 points for the questionnaire and 5 points for high grades in stem subjects which means that it is a bit easier to get a provisional early entry offer which means that only a 69 atar is required to actually confirm the early entry position

@@jimmysmith560 could you please give me an atar estimate

School ranks:
2024: 88
2023: 63
2022: 76
2021: 37
2020: 25

My marks (RAW) + rank + no. of band 6's
English Adv:
95%, 1/32, (9 band 6's)
Maths Ext 1: 84%, 3/5 (2 band 6's)
Maths Ext 2: 68%, 3/5 (2 band 6's)
Music 2: 85%, 1/2 (1band 6)
Korean Continuers (externally): 98%, 1/24
Chemistry: 72%, 3/7, (3 band 6's)
Given this information, your performance seems consistent with an ATAR in the high 90s range. More specifically, that would be an ATAR between 97 and 98. Your performance is of a high standard across your subjects, with some being better than others.

English Advanced and Korean Continuers are your best-performing subjects, meaning that they are likely to make a very good contribution to your ATAR. Being ranked first is an advantage, especially if you also manage to achieve the highest HSC exam mark in your cohort for these subjects. This is because in such a case, your overall HSC marks would be made equal to your own HSC exam marks, meaning that you would technically not be affected by the moderation process. This would, in turn, allow you to achieve a very high mark in both subjects. The same principle applies to Music 2 given your rank.

Your performance is also favourable in Chemistry, although perhaps to a slightly lower extent. This means that while this subject is likely to make a positive contribution to your ATAR, you may be able to enhance that contribution by performing better in your Chemistry HSC exam.

This leaves us with Mathematics Extension 1 and Mathematics Extension 2. While your performance is not unfavourable in either subject, they do appear to be your lowest-performing subjects compared to the rest of your subjects. This indicates that there may be more room for improvement here which, if addressed through your HSC exams, would allow you to achieve an ATAR that either matches or exceeds this estimate.

I hope this helps! 😄
