I have a chem assessment due tomorrow, it is a prac o test the pH levels of 10 salts in solution. In the discussion we have to "find out the acid/ base each salt is derived from. I can't get my head around it. Anyone have any idea what it is talking about?

I think they are going to give you the possible combinations between acids and bases that form the salts somewhat around a particular pH and ask you to identify. Probably there are more than one possibilities so you need to discuss how the strength of acids and bases affect the pH of their salts' solutions. That's the only thing I can come up with. Without any particular substances, the question is too general...

Basically it is asking u to name and classify the reactants as strong/weak acids and/or bases eg a strong acid and a strong base give a neutral salti.e. Sodium Chloride {from sodium hydroxide and Hydrochloric acid}. i think in ua task u also hav to consider whether or not the salts react with water to form H3O+ or OH- .
