hey everyone

i’m in yr 11 doing adv maths and i’ve been getting kinda average marks… got 70% in the first test (algebra + functions) and like 50s/60s in topic quizzes since. not failing but def not doing amazing either 😭

i genuinely think i’m smart i just don’t have a solid system, i get concepts in class but then i blank or make dumb mistakes in tests or just dont do practice.. i don’t rlly wanna drop to standard but also starting to wonder if adv is even worth it if i keep flopping lol

if anyone has advice on:
  1. how to actually get better at maths (not just watching vids and feeling productive)
  2. how to stop silly mistakes + get more confident under pressure
  3. how you studied for trig/functions or improved marks in general

pls lmk 🙏 next test is in week 6 and i wanna turn things around

have you tried making like a list table of questions in your hw exercises or questions from your teachers that you easily got wrong, took you a while to solve and understand. So you would have like the questions in one column, the answers in another column and you can include notes or hints on how to solve the questions, so when revising a topic you can immediately reattempt the questions you know you previously wasn't good at and identify what gaps you still have and what gaps in learning that are resolved

1. You need to practice exam calibre questions. Textbook questions are often generic and outdated. Access to past papers (with solutions!) is crucial, so you get an understanding of what questions are asked, and any tricks you can use to solve them.
2. Silly mistakes reduce once you practice more. Silly mistakes just means you haven't practiced enough to fully understand the concept.
