Hey,

I was just wondering with Medicine and Nursing (more so nursing) once you graduate do you go out and find work on your own? or are you offered a position possibly somewhere you have done clinical expirience?
Are there any agencies or organisations that are specialised with jobs in medicine & nursing?

Cheers
xx

Nursing:
Public Hospitals - you apply via a consortium in the state you want to work, meaning it's one application +/- an interview and you put in preferences for hospitals and you're offered a job with that (for NSW, see http://www.nursecon.org.au/ ). Sometimes wards where you have done placement will say they want you back and if you get a job there you can do a rotation on that ward.

Private Hospitals - apply directly to the hospital. But don't, private hospitals are there to make money. They really don't give a shit about you being a beginning practitioner, or the patients.

For nursing, you apply for the graduate programs with the hospitals you want to work in, and in qld it would be Qld Health, roughly in July the applications open.
The Mater Private nurses get the same pay as the Mater public hospital nurses which is good. Mater Private is really nice hospital.

I want to apply for grad programs in Melbourne. I went there for a week last year and loved it. Not been to one of the hospitals but yeah.

hmm was wondering how i can get info about grad programs there, without having to go to the RCNA expo in melbourne, and realised they'd probably come up to the Brisbane Expo. Cant wait for the expo!

And even if you dont get a grad program, if there is a job you really want to get, you can apply, and get support and stuff while you settle in. Its a great time to enter nursing.

rozymisty - i went to the expo in Melb last year, it was pretty much all for Victorian hospitals/health services (except some stalls for NT Health and NSW Greater West AHS), so I doubt there will be info on Vic hospitals at the Brisbane expo.
