im considering picking up jp ext for year 12 since jp is my fav subject and i'm aiming towards becoming fluent. do people find jp ext useful? or do they find it extremely stressful?

I'm doing it right now and I think it definitely does push you to get better at japanese, especially more casual, everyday language. I think just being exposed to more difficult language is good and the exposure to more japanese helps you to get more fluent and used to it. To be honest it's not easy but after a while you'll get used to harder phrases and vocabulary and it sounds like that would align with your goals to become more fluent, even if you don't end up getting good marks, your japanese will improve and that will help you with the normal course. I don't find it particularly stressful but I'm not super serious about doing well so that might be why, I think you should have a look at what the course entails and that will help you figure things out. So look into, the movie and analysis, the writing (fanfic) you do for the movie, the monologue and essay. It'll give you an idea. Plus there are some support materials that help you understand the level of language you need to comprehend.
