As per the title, is anyone here into photography?

I did it in year 11, but I was doing it as a hobby later in year 10, so school sorta pushed it along, now I've got an awesome Digital SLR and a few lenses - going to spend a few grand and start sports photography next year (going to start small, local clubs then try and work my way up).

Here are some photos mostly taken in the last 12 months.

For the record it's a Canon EOS 10D with 24-85 USM lens. Feel free to contribute your thoughts on photography or photos.

Too F**king Expensive! Film SLRs are not that bad, but I do not want to be working with film (developing, scanning, etc.), so it must be digital, yet for a digital SLR... I would much rather spend $3000 on a decent trip and just use my Casio compact (which was $800 back in the day, anyway) than fork out quite a bit on a digital SLR and a basic lense pack at the current time... First I have to get that $3000, though.

I just spent the weekend looking into prices and the like, which kind of led to me going . I am sorry if that is not the type of response that you were after. One of the older members (2002) is/was a photographer of sorts (if my memory has not gone AWOL), but I do not think that he visitis the forum anymore.

Any discussion is good :).

I was able to get the $3k sort of by luck - this very generous Sydney photographer sold me his HUGE kit (Olympus E-20 with lots of accessories) for an amazing price, I used it for 12 months, then sold it for around the same (considering it had devalued it was great), and went from there.

You know the Canon EOS 300D is less than $2000? It IS a digital SLR just minus the black sleek body, instead it has a silver plastic body. It still produces a great image and cames with a decent kit lens. You might want to look into it before the trip. At some places it can be had for $1600-$1700.

I like the first couple of photographs, even if they are a little predictable :)

The 2nd stands out as my favourite :)

The last 4 are just... wow..Good work!

That was one of the cameras that I was reading about on the weekend. Most reviews seemed to rate it quite highly, too.
I have mentioned the prohibitive price of such a camera to my mum and dad, so I am kind of hoping for a very, very generous 21st present... :). Waiting till the end of the year (prices may drop plus I will have more money in the bank) will be my only option for the near future, though.

If you were wondering, I am trying to become an amatuer landscape photographer of sorts. My skills may suck (and always will), but at least I'll be having fun.

Sorry, but I did not mention your photos at all! I really like the fourth photo :).

I'm quite interested in getting in to photography and doing a course or something because I would like to try photojournalism... unfortunately it is so expensive... do you think a beginner could get away with just using a fairly decent digital camera?!?!?! lol wishful thinking I know.

You would be better off getting a fairly cheap (but much better than a cheap digital) FILM SLR, even at cash convertors or something.

jesus chris, they're fucking awesome.

I'm doing an introductory photography course within my journalism course this year. It's quite good, I'm going along steadily.

Yeah I'm kinda into it. The only photography I've done is at uni. Check the site in my sig or http://unipics.blogspot.com
I use the Sony DSC-F828 Cybershot though I know nothing about photography so the camera mainly does all the work while I say 'yeah I think that'd be cool to take a picture of'
And nice pics!

Admiral and I both went to take photos of the Harbour bridge that night. I do post on OCAU, but i'm not Admiral. We have the same camera, different lenses, same night - hence the similarity of the photos.

Photography is cool... I bought a nikon F55 when i went to Japan a few years ago... best investment I ever made!

I dont really take photos that often... i like culture photos... theres not a lot of culture where I come from ;)

The main photos i take are wedding photos cause theres lots of weddings at my church. Every now and again i manage to pull out some crackers. I think the best think about wedding photography is when you get a photo that captures the whole feeling of the day.... one where theyre not fake smiling or posing... but when theyre actually happy to be married.

Your pics are nice Komaticon though you have to agree that if your pictures were taken with an "uber-camera" they would be a bit nicer?
Not dumping on your photos, I like the way you frame your pictures and choose your subjects :)

And yah, slow shutter speed on water is luverly :)
