I've seen a lot of posts regarding the importance of ranks within a school, and how they contribute to your HSC mark.
My question is, why do the ranks matter within the school? What if your year was very smart and your rank was only mid-range, whilst you could have a very high rank in a school with a lower level of ability? Would the person in the smarter environment have a lower HSC mark?
