just a few questions:
how old would a typical person be when they graduate med school? (GP and specialist)
how many years would they have studied the course(s)?
i heard that a lot of people fail on the first go. is this true?
It's all hugely variable. People can start med courses at any age, pretty much 16+. Most typically for undegrad it's 18-20, but I know people of all ages. Then there's variation in degree length from time of first uni degree -> end of med degree. Via undergrad, usually 5-6 years, and for postgrad it's usually 4 years on top of at least a 3 year Bachelor, so that's 7 years total. Then bear in mind people often don't get into med first try, repeat years in med degree, do a longer undergrad before entering postgrad med etc. and there's a whole lot of variability
By the time of graduation it's most typically mid-twenties, but you could also be early twenties, late twenties or anything over.
Doesn't really matter all that much exactly how old you are.
After graduation, you're working in the medical field and earning money, but there's still training to be done. Usually it's 1 year internship, 1 year residency, then entering specialty training for 3-7+ years.
Once again a lot of variablity based on if you do extra postgrad years, higher research degrees, what specialty training you enter, repeating years etc.
Absolute minimum from high school -> earning money as a doctor is 5 years. Typically 6 years-ish.
Absolute minimum from high school -> full specialist is 10 years. Typically 14ish.
