How are you guys dealing with getting your ATAR back in less than 10 days now?
Honestly atar reveal day isn’t that bad. For me, I just woke up at around 8 am, reached for my phone, and ripped that band-aid off. The later you wake up the better, cause you’ll have less time to ruminate as you plug your marks into atar calculators and stress about where in the range your actual atar will sit. My atar was slightly below the uac atar compass, but I had no worries at the end of the day.

Well I’m more or less calm & ready to accept my fate now. I’ve got conditional entry to med. If my ATAR falls below 95.00 the offer becomes cancelled, but getting lower than 97 is unlikely, so yeah not anxious anymore
Hi, how does getting conditional entry for med/dent work?

Is it based on UCAT and/or interview?
It’s only available for international students as far as I know. Based on predicted ATAR, internal mark reports, and UCAT/ISAT and finally an MMI interview

EDIT: and I believe it’s not unfair bc the total tuition fee is around 550k AUD. Internship isn’t guaranteed either

I’m under the impression that they call ppl the Friday before ATAR release, so this Friday. I’m also waiting - I might get one for that niche language I’m doing
Yeah my best guess would be that too, I know it’s usually a week before so I assumed thursday. I also heard they don’t call everyone on the same day, so maybe both Thursday and Friday or idk they might’ve changed it up.

why is this scaring me, slightly below atar compass? ive been calculating/estimating mine the entire time this year and 1 mark could make a drastic difference

Believe me your actual subject marks will seem arbitrary. I spent the whole hsc year getting ridiculously high marks for modern history and mid marks for economics and sor2. In the end, I did worse than expected in modern history, better than expected in economics, and sor2 miraculously became my best subject. In the end, it’s about averages, so whatever the individual marks are doesn’t matter. Your mark predictions are probably going to be way off your actual marks.

Because I don't have anything better to do with my life, I looked into the ATAR report. Essentially, the marks they use for ATAR calculations are not your HSC marks. They are your 'raw marks'. Therefore, as multiple marks can map to an HSC mark, the ATAR compass will quite likely differ from the actual ATAR one gets.

Also, scaling is different every year. I tried to understand the mechanism behind the overall scaling but couldn't wrap my head around it. What I am certain about, though, is that scaling is redone afresh every single year, and depending on the cohort the scaled marks differ.

I wouldn't worry too much about the score though. As cringe as it may sound, what's done is done and cannot be undone. Also, my personal experience tells me that HSC markers are exceptionally lenient compared to our internal markers (I assume you went to Ruse; my school is somewhere in the top 5). I did 2U maths last year, wrote a bunch of nonsensical working and got 3 out of 4 for a question - that financial maths one. In the end I got a high band 6 for that subject.

UMMMM WDYM ITS OUR RAW MARKS USED T CALCXULATE
scaling-report-2024-nsw-hsc.pdf
3.2.2 Raw HSC marks

Raw HSC marks, rather than NESA’s reported HSC marks, are used in the scaling process. A student’s

raw HSC mark in a course is the average of their raw examination mark and their raw moderated school

assessment. These marks are not reported to students.

Also see: frequently asked questions-

What impact did the variation in patterns of HSC marks have on the ATAR calculations?

None. It is the raw HSC marks rather than the aligned HSC marks that are scaled. The fact that the

percentage of students who are placed in Performance Band 6 differs across courses has no effect on the

calculation of the ATAR.
