i would like to hear some thought of other young leaders in NSW schools- public and private. i'm doing some research on the effectiveness of young leaders, and the realities of achieving and failing as young leaders.
where do we fit in? are we important? can we succeed? what is stopping us? WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT? how can we overcome our problems, our roadblocks, all the things that stop US from running our schools?

why aren't we in charge of our education? why are young leaders considered the novelty for many schools and adults? or is that an untruth?

correct me! discuss it! i really need some opinions from the people!!

No, but it is a good idea to question things. And as it stands the education system (not just of Australia, either) is very questionable.

i didn't say i wanted to run it. i am asking why we are dismissed as being able to. why have we never been given the opportunity?
it is an extreme example, and i am not saying i don't want any adult input inot my education, that would be ridiculous, but why shouldn't we be in a state of control within our education? it is our lives, our FUTURE, that they dictate to us every time we enter a school.
the private sector is much more conservative with student opinions (ie. they listen/care very little if at all) and i believe that that is really wrong. our education is so future-orientated that we never get to really have meaningful participation in what or how we learn, and what values are socialised to us throughour our education.

i think it is your childish "wit" which is stopping you from understandin that i'm trying to talk about young people's rights.

No. I think it is strict adherence to a many millenia old system, which is grossly outdated and whose methods are contradicted by modern psychology, that halts progress.

Oh, the syllabi the Board of Studies throws at us don't help, either.

What does this have to do with leadership? If an education system doesn't force its students to think, question, then how can you expect it to develop leaders?

This problem is deep-seated. It has its roots in the way australian society views children, the way parents view their children, the way primary school teaches children... and then by secondary school the problem simply gets compounded.

EDIT: While I do disagree with they way children are taught by teachers, this is an indirect result of the way the teachers are themselves taught to teach. Change that and the problem of teachers ceases to be.

OK, fair enough, sorry about that previous post But seriously, I think you brought up a good point with young people's rights. The only way we will have meanigful rights as student leaders is if we have meaningful responsiblites. Our output is severly limited by our limited input.

Exactly. We are treated like babies until we get that ridiculous certificate of our high school education, THEN we become real humans.

You want to know how Russia went from a backwards European nation into a global superpower and how Germany shook of the bounds of the greatest bill ever imposed on a sovereign nation and stuck it to the rest of the world? Autocracy...worked for Stalin and Hitler...it'll work for schools.

Give the teachers m16's, m4's and Hum-Vee's with rocket-launching mounts..."No student, no problem".

maybe it's just me but i don't think i aspire for my country to be like Russia.
