so what's this course like?..
is it anything like the hsc course?
its basically the same as BComm except:
- u have to do a major from the Economics: Economics, FInancial Economics or Economic History
- u have the option to major in Asian Studies....for wat reason, i dont know...better just to do Arts or International Business
- u cant do Actuarial Studies

ALso, the difference between HSC and Uni Economics is that HSC requires u just to learn the txtbook...University Economics is more conceptual. It requires a fairly good understanding of the central ideas and their application to a variety of problems, so i guess u cant just remember essays off by heart eh!? :p

btw, actuarial sux......and a lot of BEco's strive to transfer into BComm cz of the flexibility...plus its just a whole lot better:D

yeah, that's what i was planning to do :D...
but why is bcom a better degree when they are basically the same?
the same reason why you put this line in your sig
"Target course: B commerce @UNSW (96) or @USYD (95.05)"

because it looks nice on print and paper

hmm..icic
but surely b. economics sounds more professional than b. commerce...i mean we did commerce in year 10
the only difference i see, is that commerce has a bit more flexibility..

doesnt really matter as long as you do the majors u want

anyway, uni economics is basically maths and statistics, its nothing like high school..no more extended response essay type things

First year B Com has 3 core subjects: quantative methods, accounting, economics (and an elective), which is exactly the same as B Economics. Its only in later years that you branch off into whatever.

So yeah at the end of first year it you transfer from eco to commerce you've covered the first year (unless you want to change your elective, which you would, seeing as thats the reason you've changed to the comm degree)

But I think very few people actually bother to switch between the two.

You dont have to change your elective...ie if you wanted to do Accounting & Finance, but you only managed to get into B.Eco, you'd do the finance electives in 1st year, and then transfer to B.Com in 2nd year, which would leave you in exactly the same place as if you had done a B.Com in 1st year.

I did this (did B.Eco in 1st year), didn't change my electives as they formed part of my major, so it's all sweet.

If you're close to the cutoff, and you do well in 1st year, then no.

I transferred from Economics to Commerce with a distinction average
