What's the go with this degree? Like most arts degrees I've seen a lot of hate about its "uselessness" and how its essentially BArts with a higher cutoff.

What do you mean "what's the go"?

As in what do you want to know about it...?

I mean does it live up to the shitty comments or is it just the typical arts hate? Is the course actually worth the mid 90s atar. And what are job prospects like after? I'd like to major in something like international relations or maybe even history seeing as thats now possible at USYD i think

The reason the course has a higher cut off is because you definitely get to go on exchange and you have compulsory language courses (which a lot of people find difficult at the university level). It is a specialised arts degree.

Career prospects obviously depend on your major but copied and pasted from the unsw international studies site:
Upon completion of the program you will have the opportunity to access a wide range of stimulating and high-profile professions. Our graduates can be found in industries worldwide including:

International business
Government agencies (including foreign affairs)
Investment banks and other financial institutions
NGOs and the UN
Journalism and Media
Tourism and Trade
Law

If you're worried that you might not be able to find a job or haven't really got a career path in mind, you could always do a double degree and combine international studies with something else, or go for a slightly less specialised degree for greater flexibility in case you change your mind.

I spoke to a professor at the university of sydney who taught this degree. He honestly admitted that there is no clear or set career path, that when a job opportunity comes it will be by chance. You can't map out what you want to do. He says its the skills you learn that matter. But a lot of other degrees teach you similar skills in research, communication etc.
