I'm tossing up between transferring into law next year, and only majoring in either finance or accounting in commerce (as a combined law degree only lets you do 1 major) or just doing commerce and majoring in both finance and accounting. which is better in terms of job prospects?
also, is finance or is accounting the more useful degree?

A friend of mine does both Finance and Accounting - though they have their own similarities and differences, both majors contemplate one another. However, picking up a Law Degree sounds good - depending what your disciplinary focus will be though. In terms of Job Prospects - its a 50/50 between the two but B Law will look flashy on your resume and your academic transcript.

Law is only useful if you're good at it.

Having mediocre or crap marks in law won't make you any more employable in either field.

EDIT: Just to clarify, law requires a lot more effort and commitment to do well and you're competing with people who are equally competitive/intelligent. Having a bare pass WAM in law will drag your overall WAM down for a start, and given how competitive the law jobs are, it pretty much means you're dependent on your Commerce major to get a job. The question is what kind of job are you aiming for?

If you're just aiming for a normal commerce job, stick with commerce unless you really want to study law.
If you're aiming for IB/hardcore finance jobs then consider law if you're actually smart enough to do well and use it to boost your attractiveness to employers.
If you're aiming for law jobs, then duh.
