a protein may consist of several polypeptides.

but a gene only makes one poly peptide.
which means it may take several genes to make one protein

considering that an enzyme is a protein, it was called one gene one protein, but it changed to polypeptide because its a more correct term as some proteins may be composed of one or more polypeptides..htats why it changed to polypeptides, its a more accurate unit i guess?
