So is there any problem with turning up to lectures or tutorials about 5-20min late? Like do we get penalised or will the lecturers tell us off? Thanks.

Late to lectures probably won't matter too much, so long as you don't make a heap of noise coming in and disrupt people. As for tutes, some tutors are relaxed but others will get a bit annoyed if its more than 5m that you're late by.

It depends on the lecturer/tutor. Some lecturers will get pissed off if you turn up late- they will make a comment etc (then you'll have the eyes of the entire lecture hall on you). Some won't care. It can also depend on the size of the 'lecture'- language classes can be really small (ie. 15-20) people so it will be really obvious if you are late. Some lectures will be 250-300 and its unlikely the lecturer will notice- especially if the door is up the back.

As for tutes, that also depends on the tutor- some subjects have rules like if you are more than 15 minutes late to a tute it won't count (ie. it will count as a missed tutorial rather than one you have attended), others will just not be happy. Some will be fine.

You will find out pretty quickly once uni starts which lecturers/tutors are fine and which one's aren't.

You'll walk in awkwardly, but no one, not even the lecturer, will care

That's brilliant, I would pay money to see it.
Went to a creative writing lecture in another uni and the lecturer had his hand in his pocket making jack-off like movements THE WHOLE LECTURE :\

it's pretty easy to get away with in larger lectures, lots harder in tutes
but they generally don't care as long as you find your seat quickly and quietly
the worst thing they'll do is either stare at you as you come in or make a sarcastic comment about punctuation

no biggie.
