1. scaling
2. if you are even vaguely interested in eng or math in uni you should do it, cuz 3 unit is the bare minimum there.

- Scaling
- More fun than 2 unit because it's more challenging (imo)
- Might give you an advantage if you decide to drop to 2U
- Would benefit you if you are excellent at maths and suck at other subjects. This means it is very likely that you will have more units for maths counting towards to your UAI than subjects you are bad at.

Nerdy as this may sound: it's enjoyable.
3 unit is challenging, but not in the it's-impossible-to-do-this way, just the harder type questions that make you feel really good when doing them.

No offence, but the 2 unit maths course, is not challenging enough.

It's a very black and white type of subject - very easy to study for come exam periods. You either know it or you dont, where as all other subjects (yes, sciences included) there's a fine line between the syllabus points that you do or don't know. Sometimes, it's hard to separate the two.

- More maths!
- Only need to carry one textbook for 2 subjects .. that's tank.

unless 3u maths clashes with another subject you desperately want to do, pick 3u maths. there is no disadvantage.

it scales better
once you do 3u, the 2u stuff becomes alot easier (just think of when you were in year 4 or 5 and you did fractions and they were tough because it was the hardest maths you have ever done. but as you did even harder maths, the fractions got easier. same thing here.)
this also helps if you want to drop 3u later as you will definately kill the 2u exams.
more maths = more practice = you naturally do better
you have the option to drop 3u maths with really no regrets. however if you pick up 3u after a few weeks of finding 2u a bit easy, you have a few weeks of work to catch up on.

just do 3u, no downside

What level of maths r u doing atm? If ur doing Adv Maths 4 Y10 I definitely recommend 3U because the 2U course is virtually a repeat of Advanced maths until u get 2 calculus.

Eg, Co-ordinate geometry in Y11 is exactly the same as Y10 except u hav 2 learn perpendicular distance as well as ur others. Trig is also virtually exactly the same 2. Geometry is also the same!

Also, poly and circles aren't in the adv course. The end of the Y10 adv courses is really an intro in2 MX1, so if ur finding it gud, do it!!

It makes the 2U HSC soooo much easier! Q10 in the 2U paper is generally geared 2wards harder 2U. U generally get lots of practice on answering hard 2U in 3U books.

However, there is a downside. 3U is generally a big step up from Y10...

+1 to most of the points made.

+100 to the benefit that MX1 is the only subject that enables you to choose MX2 (i.e. when you have what it takes to do MX2).

if u put in the work, it makes 2u look like a joke. my marks went from 75% average at start of yr 11 and now in yr 12 i have an average of 98%, and usually achieve 100%

3U has alot funner topics and makes you appreciate the beauty of maths.

Start off wtih 3U Maths. If you don't like it, drop back to 2U.
