Does anybody know the core techniques and themes in Beowulf, the poem? I have some, but I don't have any detailed examples and its main effect the poem. I'm also having some trouble differentiating the actual purpose of the poem besides the obvious - that it's an epic and provides a detail summary on historic events etc.

Can anybody help me out with this, helping me out with the purpose, techniques and core themes.
