Hey everyone! Hope you’re all doing well!

:bosman: After the wonderful 2nd Edition which was won by hiiitsme, I am excited to announce the 3rd Edition of the Bored of Studies Chess Competition! :bosman:

Rise to the challenge and climb your way to the very top! Who will emerge as the next BoS Chess Champion?

Games will be played through lichess.org.

The top 5 Bored of Studies chess players of the 2nd Edition were:
  1. hiiitsme
  2. nilatar
  3. Pametan
  4. XXXPUMPERXXX
  5. username_2
The intended format for this competition is a knockout and each game will go for 15 minutes (similar to the 2nd Edition). In terms of the rules, they are as follows:
  • Each round will go for a maximum of 7 days. The quicker you complete your games, the quicker you will be able to defeat your upcoming opponents! 😜
  • Each game will have a time limit of 15 minutes per player.
  • Once the draw is released, you and your opponent need to contact each other to agree on a time for your match to take place. You will have to communicate with all of your opponents in order to play all your games.
  • Once a match is over, the winner is required to direct message me (jimmysmith560) with the result. Please don't post results on this thread as doing so obstructs other useful information, not to mention that it can kill the suspense.
  • Since the intended format for this competition is a knockout, a loss means a player is out of the competition and a win means that a player advances to the next round.
  • In the case of a draw (stalemate), both players will have a rematch. This process will be repeated until one player is victorious.
  • If a player is found to have been cheating, they will automatically be disqualified from the competition, and their opponent will instead progress to the next round.
  • If a player fails to respond to their opponent's message within the maximum time limit (7 days), that player is disqualified and their opponent automatically advances to the next round.
Please ensure that you regularly check this post for any updates to the rules.

Want to participate? Sign up by filling out the form below:

The minimum number of players required is 8. Once 8 players have signed up, the competition can start. If more than 8 players sign up, the additional players will be placed on a reserve list in the event that one (or more) of the 8 original players drops out. If this number increases to 16, there will be no need for a reserve list, meaning that all 16 players would be able to participate.

Remember that skill is the last thing sought! The aim of this competition is for everyone to have a good time, irrespective of age and skill! :D

I will announce the list of the participating players and the draw in due course! Make sure that you regularly check this thread!

Best of luck to all players, and let the games begin! ♟️

Bump! ♟️

7 players have now signed up, meaning that there is room for one more player to sign up. Any other players who sign up after the 8th player will be placed on a reserve list in case one of the main 8 players decides to withdraw or is disqualified, unless we get to a total of 16 players, in which case all 16 players will get to participate.

If you would like to participate, please fill out this form:

8 players have now signed up! The list of players is as follows:
This edition of the Bored of Studies Chess Competition is interesting in that players happen to be similar to other players. I was therefore able to organise the first set of fixtures in a way that makes the competition fair to each player, as follows:
  • moonsuyoung v Aeonium - This will be the battle of the youth. Will moonsuyoung come out victorious or will Aeonium's first game be a positive human experience?
  • ilovemangos v Yousef El-Omar - How will a game between two seemingly identical chess players unfold?
  • ...xD v nathanzhou1234 - Does ...xD have what it takes to beat nathanzhou1234 and progress to the next round, or does nathanzhou1234 have other ideas?
  • Imran Ahmed v Pametan - This will be the battle of the heavyweights. Both players bring substantial chess experience, with Pametan also making his second appearance in the BoS Chess Competition, having lost to nilatar in the second round of the previous edition. Will Imran Ahmed overwhelm Pametan, or will the third best player of the second edition succeed in overcoming a potentially difficult obstacle?
You will have 7 days to contact your opponent in order to schedule and play your game starting tomorrow, meaning that this round will end on Monday 6 February.

:bosman: Good luck to all players! :D♟️

The second round is now over! Here is how things went:
A huge thank you to @ilovemangos and @nathanzhou1234 for your participation! We hope to see you in future editions of the Bored of Studies Chess Competition! :D

The final:

The final match will undoubtedly push the finalists to their limits, as they have both proved that they deserve to reach such an advanced stage in the competition. There is no doubt as to how close their game will be. However, only one player will be victorious!
