The competition is flexible so players will not be pressured to play their games as soon as possible because they will be given much time to organise and play their games. Regardless, the competition can't start without at least 8 players.

We could do that especially if we don't get at least 8 players. Let's set the deadline for the end of this week. If we're still on 6 players by then, we'll have a Swiss tournament instead.

Since only 6 players have signed up, we will instead adopt a Swiss format for this edition of the Bored of Studies Chess Competition. The format is simple and the updated rules are as follows:

• There will be 3 rounds with no eliminations.
• Players will be awarded points as the tournament progresses based on their performance. A win awards 1 point, a draw awards half a point (0.5) and a loss awards no points. The player with the most points at the end of the final round will be declared the winner.
• Each round will go for a maximum of 7 days. The quicker you complete your games, the quicker you will be able to defeat your upcoming opponents!
• Each game will have a time limit of 15 minutes per player.
• Once the draw is released, you and your opponent need to contact each other to agree on a time for your match to take place. You will have to communicate with all of your opponents in order to play all your games.
• Once a match is over, the winner is required to direct message me (jimmysmith560) with the result. Please don't post results on this thread as doing so obstructs other useful information, not to mention that it can kill the suspense.
