I'm finding it really hard to find non-basic resoures on sparta, i'm faced with question:

Why the spartans had a military way of life?

Would anyone have the answer to this, it would be greatly desired.

Ralph;)

The most basic reply I can give you is this:
The Spartans had a militaristic way of life because of the system of slavery they were based on (the helots). With the lessons learnt from the Messenian Wars (helot revolts), the Spartans had a militaristic way of life because they had to remain eternally vigilant to stop another helot uprising from completely undermining their society.

Any help?

yes, another reason shud be the fact that spartans did not want the influence of other greek states like athens that cud disrupt the way of life. the aim of sparta was to set up a utopia and it kept the ancient way of life intact by abiding on the militaristic lifestyle.
