Yeah, textbooks aren't that important I find, just do shitloads of papers.

loads of questions...
if the exercises arent enough try the diagnostic test and further questions (both at the end of chapters)

but I dont recommend u do all of them since.. it takes a loong time
better do past papers so u also get a feel of the questions and u get some more variety

arent they reasonably hard?

I agree they arent very creative, but many of them are quite hard

You're telling me that the conics in HSC is more sophisticated than that in Cambridge? I think not.

and only do some of the exercises.. not half until now
(but FYI Ive only done 1 or 2 past papers too haha)

compare HSC harder 3U to cambridge

basically, people who set the HSC papers wont be stupid enough to set questions that are similar to textbook questions, so you cant just study off a textbook and expect to get high marks. HSC tend to make questions trickier and require more skill - while some topics might be easy in some years, other topics would be much harder - if you want to compare conics, look at 2000 HSC Q7 - you'll never find those type of questions in textbk
