This is probably a stupid question but where can I find the class timetable for next year's units? And how does an external student enrol into an external unit?

Go to this website Timetable Maker put in your units and make your timetable. Not sure about the second question, i assume its still through e-student, but thats not till January.

Via eStudent. After you enrol in the unit, there's an option of "Offering", and you want external.zaqwerty said:

I got told in an email from someone in the undergrad office that I could enrol in external units online in e-student as usual? Even though this is my first time?
