hey

I need some clarification for this dotpoint:

Discuss the need for alternative sources of the compounds presently obtained from the petrochemical industry

when they say "compounds presently obtained from the petrochemical industry," they mean plastics and stuff right? (not fuels?)

So are they suggesting that we have to find alternative sources for plastics/polymers (e.g. dehydration of ethanol from sugar cane, cellulose), as opposed to finding alternative sources for energy (e.g. solar, ethanol from sugar cane)???

thanks

It means both, and more - plastics and ethene derived polymers come from the petrochemical industry, as do fuels (petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, ...) as do many other compounds. The dot point is deliberately broad.
