contradictory info: Pi-Meson or gluon (1 Viewer)

Wtf carries the strong nuclear force, some texts say gluons, some say pi-meson and some say both in different sections of the text. This is really starting to pee me off

gluons do

pi-mesons are part of mesons (as in.. there are mesons which are not called pi)
meson is a class of hadron (hadron can be meson or baryon)
hadron is affected by the strong nuclear force (or the strong force in short)
but the force is caused by gluons exchange between two or more hadrons.

hmm.. looks like mesons also play a role in the force between nucleons (protons and neutrons) but it's more complex and is a secondary example of the strong force
(quoting from textbook... dont really know what it means.. just say it's gluons which are the force carriers)

Okay this is the deal.

Strong Nuclear has two indentities. One is the Fundamental SNF and the other is the Resisdual SNF.

The Fundamental is the interaction between Quarks, Colour, and the things that make up hadrons.. this is carried by the messenger particles Gluons which are Bosons.

The Residual force is the interaction between Hadrons (the residual effect of the fundamental force) and keeps the protons/neutrons together. This is mediated through Pi-Mesons or the Pion.
