Hi,
I am a new student at a school and I found out today upon receiving my timetable that I didn't get maths extension 1 as all the classes were full. Apparently, there would be an opportunity for the grade to change their subjects during weeks 3 and 4 so I just wanted to know, what are the chances that I would be able to pick up the subject? (I am quite skeptical that anyone would drop the subject which is one of the main reasons I am asking)
Thanks in advance.

Well if someone drops then you can join. But its not guaranteed, moreover you will inevitably fall behind from everyone else. So I would suggest taking a open high school / tafe course during the waiting time.

But I'm sure someone will drop it within the next couple of weeks.

There is no way for us to be able to know. Your best bet of getting in would be to talk with the head teacher and/or deputy about this, and see if any sort of exception could be made. If you feel confident enough to self learn, you could ask for them to assign you a 'supervising teacher' who will just be in charge of getting you the exams and exam notifications, and you simply learn the content by yourself in your own spare time.

Don't worry too much about it. My friend got dropped from doing accelerated 2 unit maths at his school and he's planning to do it at TAFE/distance education. He's currently in discussion for whether or not he can do 3 unit this year with the head of mathematics
