From the Lancet to the GMC: how Dr Andrew Wakefield fell from grace | Society | guardian.co.uk
Pulse - GMC issues damning verdict on Andrew Wakefield
Basically Wakefield (the quack behind the MMR/Autism link back in the 1990s, subsequently retracted by his coauthors), has been found by the GMC to have behaved unethically and 'failed in his duties as a responsible consultant’.
The GMC ruled that his methods were not in the clinical interest of the participants as they were not going to receive therapeutic benefit from tests.
In one instance described, Dr Wakefield took blood samples from children at his son's birthday party without the appropriate ethical committee approval and in an 'inappropriate social setting'.
---------------------
People on my facebook are sick of me by now, but the only implication I can see from this pursuing of Wakefield is that the anti vaxx quacks are seeing this as a victory of the small man vs. Big Pharma and that Wakefield will return triumphantly.
What they also fail to acknowledge is that the motivation for his study was the payout he was getting from a rival vaccine company to patent a new vaccine. If he could show this certain vaccine caused autism, it would pave the way for him to patent his own.
If this thread gets less replies than the Islam vs Jews threads, I will kill you all.
