I'm interested in learning how to ride and purchasing one and it's not like a phase thing i'm going through (as my my mother told me) i'm genuinely interested but where do i start?

Go to a mates farm or someones farm and hoon around on the dirt bikes for a few days

Yeh, just find a mate with one and ask him if he can teach you. I had an xr250 for a little while but sold it due to lack of funds, but i love bikes, i reckon there the funnest things to do next to driving.
