ideally to make easier you draw a standard distribution and the info given and it makes it easier, give me a sec to draw it for you to show

If 40 is the mean, then 50% lie below 40.

52 is one standard deviation above the mean.

34% of scores lie between 0 and 1.

Therefore 50 + 34 = 84% below 52.

you see how you can split up the columns into smaller percentages, you add those up (thats one way of clearly showing how, once you understandit well you can take shortcuts)

i fixed it anyway :p

Basically it works like this.

68% lie within 1 standard deviation. I.e, between - 1 and 1 z-scores.

95% lie with in 2 standard deviations. I.e, between -2 and 2.

99.7% lie within 3 standard deviations. I.e, between -3 and 3.

By using simple deduction yo can work it out.
