Domain and Range notation. (1 Viewer)

When writing the domain and range of a graph, is it necessary to use the correct notation (The ones they use in text books, i.e. with the {} brackets etc).

Usually I just write for example D: x>0 x=/4

Is this accepted in the HSC, or should I write it in the accepted format?

what you're currently doing should be fine.
x ε ℝ for all reall numbers

The only suggestion I'd make is to perhaps write the word "Domain" rather than just "D", although it's probably no big deal.

I prefer:
Domain: {x: x > 0, x ≠ 4}

It's terribly old fashioned and quaint, but it's just habit for me now.

The format written in some books is the formal notation of expressing the domain. Pure mathematicians use that format a lot in set theory.
In this context, words should generally suffice...
