So the Q is "draw a labelled diagram to explain the solubility of iodine in ethanol"
I haven't yet labeled it but is my formula correct, and is the zigzags the way to represent dispersion forces. Ignore the bit at the top

I told Sien to ask this because I was never sure myself. I never had to draw dispersion forces in an exam but on the sheets my teacher gave me she drew in the dispersion forces using zigzags to show the correspondence between the structure of the molecules (in this case, linear) that are key to allowing them to be formed

Please ignore the maths

Yeah your welcome my friend,

nah i'm pretty sure the questions just telling you to draw structure for ethanol and label the tail then explain

Is it correct to represent dispersion force as zigzags

Never seen that done before, and doesn't really make sense cause dispersion forces come from randomly polarized electron clouds, and idk how your gonna represent dispersion forces there without drawing the electron clouds.

I think whatever you do should be fine as long as you label it/provide a key for it. I usually use dotted lines

I copied the notation my teacher gave. Zigzags kinda work though because albeit in a poor way, they can be used to visualised the temporarily induced dipoles
