probably not imo bc standard and adv maths overlaps with each other a bit but i would consult with your head teacher to get a better idea

If you've never really done well in advanced despite putting in effort i would say drop, but if it's just this time or you've got good marks before i'd say stay. idk too much about the scaling but i've never really seen ppl with math standard get over a 95 Atar. And also consult your teacher to see how they feel

im pretty sure there are def alot of ppl who got over 95 atar with standard 2 maths its just they aren't like i guess "shown" as much in a sense compared to people with adv, ext and so on.

If its like a one time slip up as what iloveeggs said then yeah maybe stay only if you figured out WHY you did wrong and ensuring that you actually take action to improve on it. However, if your marks haven't been good since like consistently doing poor, It's not worth it. You will find its alot easier in std 2 and it will allow you to actually get the band 6 u want and yes you can still get your goal atar with standard maths it doesn't matter at all just make sure you get that top band

i agree with everything else you said but this last part is lowkey not true bc its not that deep to band 6 maths std if youve at least passed your adv tests + 1 subject will not tank your atar by that much if you are good at your other subjects.

its always a good idea to drop subjects you are bad to subjects you are guaranteed to do better but i think the closer you get to a 99 atar goal you should consider keeping adv (not if you are flopping it and its unsaveable). 95+ is still doable tho

you are right tho, generally dropping from adv to std maths is most beneficial if you have struggled to cope with adv maths and not one singular bad test. i would acc argue a 55% on any adv maths test would be reason enough to drop to std bc it means youre strugglign hard enough that bringing that mark back up will need a lot of work that you will have to sacrifice from other subjects

Multiple of my friends dropped from advanced to standard in year 12 (even as late as the end of term 2) as they were averaging like 40s-50s. Once they dropped, they started getting higher marks and most of them boosted their marks to high band 5 -> low band 6 range.

Honestly, if you aren't getting used to the concepts in advanced quick enough, I recommend just dropping and trying for a band 6 in standard.

thank you for the advice!! if i do drop would i have to relearn yr 11 standard content too or just the year 12 content and would i just get the average marks for standard math since the first two assessments are already completed or do i redo the assessments

i would say you should relearn and practise with y11 content closer to trials and hsc but thats just bc in maths hsc and trial papers they can technically ask questions on y11 content as well so you have to revise it anyways. i would say ask your std teacher for advice and ask for any resources or the y11 tests that the rest of the std class had so you can use them to practise later.

also idk what you will get for your mark for std bc its completely up to your school what they decide to do, so its diff depending on the school. you should ask your school for this info
