just found out that the poem i read and was so set on using for my english assignment was on the prescribed text list so i can't use it

does anyone have any good short stories/poems about overcoming hardships thru character growth? sounds pretty broad and easy to find, but there are so many to sort through...

any help would be appreciated greatly
