At first i thought macq was crap, but as we got further in i found it VERY useful. I would recomend macquarie, cause i think its information is more concise. Does ur school or local library have either of them? If they do you should buy whichever they dont have, then borrow the other one just to clarify anything ur not sure of. But i got a band 6 using mostly macquarie, with basically nothing from the teacher so...

I got 92 in Bio and I mainly used Macquarie. I would recommend using a combination of Heinemann, Macquarie and Excel, to compare suitability of information for each dot point. That is of course, if you're prepared to do that. I believe Surfing has WAY too much irrelevant information. Jacaranda is good if you have time to read an encyclopedia while trying to perfect your other subjects. Spotlight sidetracks too often and misses out on a lot of vital information. I know because I have all of them. But then, Biology was my worst subject. Hope that helps!

Excel was really good for me, the main problem with the Macquarie study guides is that some of them go into too much detail that is completely uneccessary.

EXCEL IS THE SPAWN OF THE DEVIL!

Seriously, way too brief. I have an Excel physcis HSC study guide at home, the first core tpoic was around 20 pages long. Compared to macquarie, i'd say its small-fry. besdies, they could ask a few off-topic questions in the HSC. They had logic gates in the 2004 exam, and excel didnt touch those...(Enginerring studies)

I don't believe that's the case for the Biology edition. Most of the time it's just right. However sometimes it lacks depth (and not the other way around).

Or maybe it just means bio's fairly straightforward if you put a slight amount of effort in...

Make your own notes. I used Excel for examples etc, but always double checked the stuff in there against the stuff in my class textbook (It was "The Spectrum of Life" I think, damn I've even forgotten what textbooks I used :p).

Never study straight out of any textbook, you'll flunk out.
