Just wondering, are you allowed to use 4unit methods in 3unit maths questions?

Yes, as long as its maths and its valid you're pretty much allowed to use whatever you can come up with, unless of course if the question specifies to use a particular method.

the only thing you shouldnt use is the method of 4U integration by parts in 3U
You can but like you said probably not a good idea...

I used it before and there were no problems, but this might be dependent on the teacher marking
The reason that you shouldn't is that there has to be a quicker method if it's in a 3U test i.e. a nice substitution or something.

this. Integration by parts is usually a last resort, even in 4 unit (unless specified). Usually there is a FAR easier method.

If the questions are well written, there should be no need to resort to any Ext2 methods at all.

Usually, but for our question it was to find the area between an ln curve and the x axis, for 3u you'd have to transform it into an appropriate exponential find the area between the exponential and the x axis, find total area of rectangle then subtract the area you got from the exponential. Alternatively i knew integration by parts so it was about 100x quicker and less prone to making a silly mistake.
