i'd seen this on another forum a while back. so basically, just post some good/nifty/cool applications and a short description. :)

to get things started, a pretty stock standard list of apps. basically focusing on protection.

- avg anti virus
- lavasoft ad-aware
- spybot search and destroy
- hijackthis
- firefox

edit: btw, save conversation to PM's and other threads.

Trillian/Miranda for IM, Trillian on faster comps, Miranda for a more compact app.
Foobar2000 for music.
Exact Audio Copy for perfect audio rips.
Avast anti-virus.
Daemon tools, especially for Ubisoft games which wont allow you to run their games if you have any virtual drive program installed, even if you are using a legit copy of the game from a legit CD.

Edit: Forgot, Apache

Dang, I forgot OpenOffice. I'm really liking it. Free and not as bloated as Word.

Firefox - because you can never go wrong with tabbed browsing :)
messenger plus - I guess I could live without it, but it's pretty nifty (just don't install spyware)

realVNC or tightvnc - for accessing my computer from elsewhere
winscp - more secure than ftp. then again a lot of the time i don't really care
dosbox - for all ye old dos games :D
