Unfortunately, I just received my first Year 12 assessment task for Mathematics Extension 1 (internal weighting 20%). I suffer from exam anxiety that really impacts on my performance and it was particularly bad during this task. I received a 43% (going to a school within the top 70s) and the average was 50%. I have always been fairly strong in math, and have never received a mark below average (from memory) or failed an exam, so I’m really concerned about what this means for my chances of getting an E4. Would an E3 be more realistic at this point, or can I pull myself back together?

GIRL YOU'VE GOT THIS... i just screwed up my first bio assessment too but it's okay (not really... but still)
If average was 50%, you're not too far off and besides, if you suffer from exam anxiety, I'm sure you're more than capable of extension

But saying that, always remember to put youself first, if you think you can do better without extension maths so you can focus on your other subjects, go for it. Find a way where you can maximise your marks without having to put youself on the line...

lots of love ❤ all of us are going to get through '25 together

I screwed up plenty of times in year 12, you will be ok!! Your actual mark does not matter so much as your rank in the subject, this was only worth 20% so there are heaps of opportunities to redeem yourself. Have you thought about applying for provisions for anxiety? This may help your performance and is something to look into if you haven't

nah ur not in a pickle. Its recoverable. Seeing as ur only slightly below average and that the exam was only 20% weighting, a comeback is still very possible. If it helps, one of my science trial marks was bumcheeks (like 70%) but I managed to get like 97 or smth in the HSC exam which brought my HSC mark to 92 overall. An E3 should be no issue. As for E4, If u put in sm hard work, that should also be no issue.

I have, but I already have rest breaks for physical stuff so I try to use those when I can.
