I got an atar of 91.8. If I failed a couple of subjects in my first year in uni and decide to transfer to a different course at a different uni with an atar cutoff of 84.6 would I have a shot in getting a place?

I am by no means sure on any of this, but if I am interpreting what I read somewhere correctly, most uni's only take uni marks into consideration once you have completed a whole year... so if you were to drop out after sem 1 and then apply next year to this other uni then they may only look at your ATAR and ignore your uni marks.

Look into it... DO NOT TAKE MY WORD ON IT.

It is difficult to say, depends how your actual university marks are. After your first year of university, ATAR is usually discarded (with the exception of law and medicine).

EDIT: Matrob, pretty sure you are correct on this. Mid-year transfers only consider your ATAR as the first semester of uni results aren't released on time.
