Following the referendum of 1999, about 70% of it's infrastructure was destroyed by Indonesian troops/pro-Indonesia militia and about 300,000 people were displaced. UNTAET, one of the UN missions to East Timor helped rebuilt infrastructure, as well as maintain security. Australia has provided over $820 million of ODA since 1999, with $117 million of ODA being provided in the 2009-10 period.
