what part of IT do u find boring?
and don't say all of it :p cos IT is so broad.

Glad u liked UTS DigitalFortress. I'm sure you've read the dan brown book and know who will guard the guards :)

If you're not a programmer, UTS is the place to be!
if you are a programmer, than, look towards USyd / UNSW.
if u want programming / management, then back to UTS it is :)

The IT industry *IS* picking up!!!

no i will not be choosing a job in it...

IT is not a job of the future...If you do enough research into it ...you would find out that like 70%+ of the it jobs will be taken to contried like india in the future and done by computers and yeah it would get boring.....its fun to do some aspects of the course but :D others just get stupid....

in the future i will be looking for a job in like business/building/marketing/selling style job with aspects of it in it....

depends what area, there's only so much that can be outsourced to an effective level.

I don't know I just saw some documentary they were just going on about how companies in the future were going to be outsourcing shit loads of things to asia...and they were telling every onr about the good jobs for the future and what not...

you cant outsource everything dude

what about maintaining databases...infrastructure of the company. Networking?
those are the fields that if you outsource, in short/long term it hurts the company more than it benefits them

maintainig databases can be done easily in india...video conferencing?

networking is like the only thing that it people will be used for in the future but like i said in the near future around 70% of it jobs will go down....

in short/term long term it will save the company millions so they will not care...

no
although database can be easily done in india
there are alot of disadvantages if you outsource ppl to maintain your database..these are the stuff you learn when you work, the textbook won't say shit

my dad (who has been working in IT/Accounting industry ever since he began working) told me to go for the MCSC, although he said this certificate won't get you millions in a year, it will at least get you a job somewhere along the way...

We studied this issue in one of my units this year. You'll find that the IT jobs that are outsourced are the redundant and boring ones. Managerial and consulting jobs in IT as well as computational science are very hot right now. If you look at the figures youll find that IT management, research and development, consulting and project management all have median salaries above $100,000 in Australia. These are the types of jobs which cannot be outsourced at any time, even in the future. Also in Australia, database administration, research and teaching, programming/analyst all have median salaries greater than $70,000.

If I were to make one suggestion, if your passion lies in this industry do not be deterred by people who claim that the industry is dying, they couldnt be more wrong.

i'd be more worried about jobs becoming redundant due to technological breakthroughs than being outsourced to overseas.

I'm definitely doing an IT subject. Prolly BCSE/BDM @ UNSW. Haven't looked at UTS carefully though.
