Ok, so I've done a quick search for this and came up with no threads, so I decided to make one. What do people think of this genre? Favourite bands? Is it the most extreme form of metal?

I've been listening to a lot of Carcass recently. While all there stuff isn't grind, enough is to deserve a mention. Other bands would include Agoraphobic Nosebleed and Napalm. Also some of the subgenres like Goregrind and Pornogrind are pretty decent.

Thoughts?

Grindcore is an extreme music genre that emerged during the mid–1980s. It draws inspiration from some of the most abrasive music genres – including death metal, industrial music, noise and the more extreme varieties of hardcore punk. Grindcore is characterized by heavily distorted, down-tuned guitars, high speed tempo, blast beats, and vocals which consist of growls and high-pitched screams.
Definitely one of the better 'cores' IMO.

I think it's fantastic.

It's one of the very few genres I've seen that don't need to associate themselves with an image. You don't have to look flashy, you can write songs as short or as long as you want, you can sing about anything you want, I mean, you don't even have to particularly sound good, as long as it's fast and loud there's always gonna be fans. For me, it's the ultimate energy music.

Lately, as in since yesterday evening, I'm been listening to Extreme Noise Terror's album A Holocaust In Your Head. Dual vocalists, super fast d-beats, it's just awesome. Also in the past week or so I've been listening to Melbourne grind band Agents of Abhorrence. I got their release "Earth. Water. Sun." a couple of days before I saw them support Wolves in the Throne Room. Drum+guitar+vocals awesomeness.

I spent a lot of last year listening to hardcore / crossover stuff, esp. grind and powerviolence, but newer stuff, not so much stuff from the 80's and 90's. Bands like Magrudergrind, Weekend Nachos, Extortion, Cut the Shit, Dangers, Rotten Sound.

Any grind, pv or hardcore enthusiast should listen to Magrudergrind, Extortion and Dangers. If you want to, I can help ye out.

Of the list, I think Cut The Shit and Dangers are the only ones which don't ring a bell with me. Extreme Noise Terror have some fantastic stuff in their longer songs. I like Third World Genocide as one of their shorter tracks, a little over a minute.

Magrudergrind is one I've listen to on youtube a few times, though I don't own any of their stuff. I think I'm less interested in the punk/hardcore side of it, than the metal side. Though I know it's often hard to tell the difference when it comes to grind.

Of the subgenre's, I find pornogrind has some really interesting stuff. It seems a lot more muffled than straight grind, though the intensity is always there. Cock and Ball Torture would probably one of my favourite from this genre.

Yeah, Cut the Shit and Dangers are very much traditional hardcore when put up against bands like ENT or Napalm.

Magrudergrind? Ugh man, nothing can describe the amount of energy that runs through me when The Protocols of Anti-Sound drops, esp. the last blast section.

Don't mind a bit of Blood Duster or Pig Destroyer, saying this though my main genre is hardcore so I'm a bit uneducated on it.

Pig Destroyer are pretty big on the scene. They're one I need to look more into, I've been lazy recently and haven't gotten around to it. I've heard good things.

I can stand Pig Destroyer mainly due to the fact that they're very hardcore-esque and that I could pretty much mosh to them.

You'd know it if you'd heard it. Check out the band Cock and Ball Torture for an example. It's actually quite listenable.

One of my favourite albums of all time is Insect Warfare - World Extermination. It's fucking fast, full of non-stop blasting grind with a few slower sections to keep you interested. I would go so far as to say it's the best grind album since Napalm Death's FETO.

I've been listening to Kill the Client, Captain Cleanoff, Gronibard and Assuck a bit lately, as well as some goregrind like The Day Everything Became Nothing. They produce some of the best slow, catchy goregrind out there today.

Anyone like the Daughters album 'Canada Songs'? The drums bass and guitar are sexy as fuck, though I really don't like Alexis's screams.

Their other big album: 'Hell Songs' probably couldn't be called grind anymore, they redefined their sound, and now, I can't find a genre they fit neatly into, which is great :]

Also, the singers new stle is fantastic!
