So we got the following questions for an assesment

Explain why geopolitical developments in the Middle East and the Sino-Soviet split had a significant impact on the US-Soviet relations in the Détente period?

and ive gathered a whole bunch of stuff i see as geopolitical develipments from both Sino soviet split and ME (some may be wrong/irrelevant ive just tried to get as much as possible) and im having problems linking them to the impacts on US-Soviet relations.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me so help on why the following geopolitical developments had an impact on US-Soviet relations ?

Geo political developments in the Sino-Soviet split include:
- The Border War
- The end of bipolarity
- Brezhnev Doctrine
- Cultural revolution in China
- Rivalry for dominate Communist power
- China’s fear and suspicion of the USSR
- US’s and China’s rapprochement – China establishing itself as a global player
- SALT agreements between US and Soviets regarding arms race and military hostility

Middle East include:
-Arab-Israeli war – America protector of Israel
-Yom-Kippur War and the US + USSR’s influence on it
- Arab oil producing countries use of economic warfare against the West ‘Oil Embargo’
- Iran Hostage Crisis – American decline
- US and USSR exploited tensions in the Middle East
