Question One:

For this dotpoint on the Hajj:

Describe one significant practice

If it was a 6 mark question... do you need to talk about the symbolism behind each ritual. Such as circling the Ka'bah represents submission to Allah, or can you just say they circled the Ka'bah and then (talk about next ritual).

Question Two:

For this dotpoint also on the Hajj:

Demonstrate how this practice expresses the beliefs of Islam

When it refers to beliefs of Islam does that mean angels, tawhid, books of Allah and so on. Or are you meant to write about submission to Allah and how the rituals symbolise following his will (like through resisting temptations).

Question Three:

For a 6 mark question how many words or lines should be written? Is 450 words too much???

1) Yes
2)Interesting question. theoretically its the Yr 11 stuff (why study it!) but logically its about submission etc as I think it would be difficult to draw in all of those points effectively for Hajj (maybe..maybe not)
3)The Board gives you the space that they see as enough so whatever you can write on the supplied lines.
From 2010, there is going to be a word limit for the /15 section and it looks like its about 600 words in total (what a joke) so 450 words in that context is way too much!

Like I said, use the space...I would say 450 words is a bit much given that that amount would typically be a page to 1 1/2 pages (handwriting issues taken into account) of an A4 sheet!
