Hey everyone,
I was just wondering what your thoughts on skills based english tutoring (i.e creative writing, analysis skills and writing skills) or text based tutoring (i.e tutoring based on school texts). Please let me know what your preferences were for someone trying to excel in english

skills based 10000000000%.
this is high school english. you really do not need a solid grasp of a text to get 20/20; although; your distinct ability to write fluidly, concisely and imaginatively, will get you far. (i dont say this as some random band 4 student; I'm pretty good at English).
Texts are so much easier to learn by yourself. Youtube is an endless loop of information.

good luck!

Woww thanks for the insight. What about like tutors who can work with you on the novel and then work on the analytical writing side of the novel in relation to your text after understanding the text?
Any recommendations for good english youtubers asw?

i've found jeddle to be really good - they have good detailed analysis and advice for writing as well.

a tutor who can do both - guide you through the essay writing skill in reference to the text will be the best of both worlds. To succeed in English; you need to just write as many essays as you can before your exam.

So if you were presented with 2 options which would you choose
Option 1) A tutor who has knowledge on your texts and helps you with the essay writing part specific to the text after teaching the text
Option 2) A tutor who solely focuses on a broad range of skills useful to hsc but not specifically towards the analysis of your text

Just my 2 cents but I recommend reading every exemplar essay there is and memorising key phrases and quotes. In the exam just word vomit everything memorised (make sure to always link to the q). Easy B6. Those who say don’t memorise have either been passed down the knowledge of god or they just straight capping.

Unfortunately Im just a lowlife who hasn't been gifted the english scholar status by god so would you recommend only reading exemplars that are specific to your text or every exemplar in existence?

Just for your text will suffice. If you want to go that extra mile however, reading other essays and how they use and analyse techniques may also be beneficial to you too.

There’s plenty of online resources. Just gotta look carefully.
