I need help with my science experiment. Why is salt able to retain water in your body for longer periods of time? and what is in salt that enables it to do so? and same questions for sugar too. thank you

Salt is in the form of SODIUM CHLORIDE -> NaCl
Sugar is in the form of GLUCOSE -> C6H12O6

Salt effects your kidneys and blood pressure.
It is the sodium within salt, which makes your kidneys to hold water, instead of excreting it.

Sugar raises the hormone level of insulin
High insulin levels makes it hard to excrete sodium
