...You'd better know that you can't choose the same text types as those you're studying in class.
I plan to choose novels as well but I haven't decided yet. My teacher suggests The Hobbits which is related to The lord of the rings. You can ask your teachers for mmore details...Um, it's a bit too long... "The book of everything_Guus Kuijer" is short, easy to understand, about intellectual journey involved the cognitive development. (drawback: youth fiction so be careful not to reveal any childish or immature analysis because the markers don't like something fun and cute at all. They are boring themselves.)
You can look at "The lost thing" which is a graphic book (it's pretty big and thin). It's about imaginative journey and...I love it. I can't choose it though because my friend in Advanced English gets it first. I can give you some ideas: The lost thing is metaphorically depicted through the peculiar appearance of imaginary creatures in a surreal mechanicalized era. There are many lost things emerging at the end but it's only when the main character is young that he can see it. It's important that the responders are positioned as observers rather than an in-game character. Thus, they have objective views towards how people, in general, rarely recognize the presence of such abnormal creatures while the small children are always able to pinpoint them out. What is the lost thing? Some call it 'memory'. I call it fantasy (an abstract term coiled in a short extract I read a few week ago justifying the increasing dominance of Reality over Fantasy which stands for Curiosity, Innocence, Plain love and anything relating to Child's qualities.

If you want something short and much more easily comprehensible, 'Letters from the inside' by John Marsden is not a bad contender. La la. Synopsis: 2 girls exchange letters. One tells lies. One tells all the truth. The lie can't last long so they have conflicts. One rejects their friendship while the other attempts to reconciliate... You should read it because the plots are very very unpredictable.
