I have two main preferences:
1. BSc @ USYD
2. BSc @ MQ

Unfortunately, I didn't meet the ATAR cut-off for USYD (missed it by 6 points). However, I did meet the ATAR cut-off for MQ. What I want to know is, should I leave my first preference as Sydney, in hopes of getting in during the second round, or should I put my first preference as MQ, to maximise my chances of getting an offer?

If you're above the cutoff for MQ, you will still get an offer for them even if its your second preference (unless of course you get USYD). They do not discriminate between people who have a course as their first pref v their ninth.

So my 2c, leave your top two as they are.
