Those who have done International law (or are currently doing it), say they are enjoying it... I cant really give much perspective because I'm not at all drawn to International law etc (I lump them in the same category as Constitutional law... Oops).

I'm doing health law which is awesome; Cameron Stewart really throws you in there, but it is really rewarding. And the tutes are actually interesting!!

ORRRR you can do Indigenous Law. I know, it sounds odd, but the convenor is Anne McGuigan (criminal law lady). There are only two tutes a week (no lecture) and the tutes only run for about half the allocated time (one apparently starts at 9, but the class had a 'discussion' and decided it was too early!). And you get to choose the weighting of your assessments. It sounds so cruisy its not funny.

i am so tempted to do indigenous law so i can reuinte with anne mcguigan. although the course is of no interest to me at all.

im looking through e student now. its like all the courses are missing.

theres no international law........no health law..........no indigenous law...........where did they go?

will i have to do this in person?

who will i have to go see?

What's wrong with Labour Law? 2 hours a week, interesting readings, (compared to other units), a slightly crazy lecturer... It was a good break up from my hardcore slog units, like Remedies.

Thats a bit odd.. There isnt a drop-down box of elective units on eStudent (or something)? Maybe you do have to go in... What a pain. But you have to fill out a form stating that you are withdrawing from labour law, before the census date.

/end Yvette's v. limited law faculty knowledge ;)

theres a dropdown of subjects.......but none of the ones i wanna do are there.

apparently you have to go in to uni to change.

so i went in today. talk to maggie.

she says "oh we're 3 weeks in you'll have to talk to the convenor".

none of the people from international law were there.

so now i have to email one of them and hope they let me do the course.

i withdrew form labour law on e student i hope thats enough.

and g2g i didn't like labour law because it reminded me too much of jurisprudence. reading all these scholars with their theories and such.

i like it when its just here are some cases.....here are the statutes etc.............look heres a hypothetical situation.....whats the answer.

Abit off topic, but....

LAW205
How did u survive crim? i thought i have seen the last of this theoretical philosophy stuff in jurisprudence, the fact that the lectures by anne doesnt correspond to weekly reading makes it worse.....

LAW314
As for constitutional law, it seems that ilectures are more useful than actually going to lectures.

Having the brick book, Margaret Kelly's lecture notes and listening to ilecture at home is good enough (even though her lecture notes are comprehensive enough for me). The stuff in the brick book is too comprehensive, three lines in the notes explains enough of Dicey's extracts. I also have Iain Stewart as the tute, which is enough to catch up whats missed in the lecture

LAW204 contracts

Dave Spencers lecturers are good, but listening at home with the textbook and reader is enough. Most of the good stuff is from the lectures and again theres too much in the case, one-two lines in the textbook and the rest from the lectures is more than enough for the cases....

SO wats your success strategy MJ? IWR? G2G?

while criminal has a theoretical vibe to it.......especially with the first essay question don't worry.

its not completely like jurisprudence.

the 2nd essay question is a complete hypothetical. and i liked it the best.

you'll be given a situation and have to explain the legal issues and possible outcomes. like what defences they can use......what they might be charged with and how successful they might be with their defences etc.

i gtg i'll talk about the other ones later.

and on topic: rafiq islam still hasnt replied to my email.........i am royally screwed. if i cant get in to international law i either stick with labour law or become a 2 subject bandit.

LAW205/6: Dont do the readings, dont listen to the iLecture, just read her transcripts (if she hasn't told you about them yet, email her and ask). All she does is read those damn transcripts, so once you have those you are set my friend. I only used the text for research and answering the final exam. And, its not all theory, just the beginning stuff.

LAW314/5: Never listened to the iLecture because Kelly's voice put me to sleep every time. I didnt do the readings either. You can get away with doing jack all, because the essay and final exam tell you exactly where to read to answer the questions (which aren't challenging to begin with).

LAW204: This I cant really remember, but I did listen to the iLectures and made pretty comprehensive notes. But I think we used a different book to the one that Spencer uses. Just a note, know the details of the cases, because some of the time its some minute detail that distinguishes one mistake case (or duress or non est factum etc) from the others, which comes in very handy in the final exam.

:)

Edit: IWR, being a two subject bandit sounds fantastic to me! But, you will then have an extra subject to squeeze in somewhere else. It sucks he hasn't replied. I was taking to a friend, and she told me that the International law essay is due on the 20-something of April (just so you know... thats like two weeks after remedies).

Thats BS! You have until the census date (31 March) to change your enrolment without penalty! I would talk to... I dont know... not the head (because I dont think we have one presently) but is there some admin person? Or the Registrars Department?

But I do like your signature ;)

Rafiq is the acting head.

Isn't it common knowledge that you can't add units after the first week? But you can drop the units up to the census date...

I added PSY units second semester last year. People do it commonly in Psych. I don't see why you cant add units? It makes no difference; the process for eStudent and the Registrar's Dept is exactly the same for adding and withdrawing.

nah changing subjects has to be done in the first week.

which i think is kinda stupid since for some its pretty hard to judge whether they like a course simply from the first week.

maggie said 3rd week in they dont allow changes.

its probably why all the subjects i could change into don't show up on estudent.

so yeah.

quite the disaster.
